In my project ‘Imagine Trakl's Nightmares’, I set myself the challenge of visualizing the nightmares of Austrian poet Georg Trakl using generative AI. Inspired by Trakl's profound and often dark poems, especially his last work “Grotesk,” I wondered what his dreams—or more precisely, his nightmares—might have looked like. My work aims to depict these dark visions, which may have contributed to his tragic suicide. I deliberately chose to make my images morbid and dark in order to reflect the atmosphere of suffering, fear, grief, hopelessness, reproach, threat, and aggression that is so present in Trakl's poems. Each image I created with the help of AI generators is a direct interpretation of Trakl's texts and his inner life.
